I'm starting to look more into the design of the characters - right now they're not too solid - though i'm fairly confident about the style, it's the total opposite when it comes to the details. The devil is in the details right?
Right now my idea for Isolde is that she's this "princess" trapped inside the Crystal that Tristan finds in the beginning of the game, you only really glimpse her true form throughout the game when you turn on the puzzle mode. Otherwise she's following you around in her crystal form.
The story or tale of tristan and isolde has alot to do with this 3-way love theme - i wanted to get rid of that and focus on making 2 characters who start out at odds with eachother - Isolde could start coming off as quite the bitch.
But as the game progresses she grows on Tristan, and whether they like it or not, they're bound to eachother.
On her visual design i've gone for the chibi style - nicely fitting in with the psuedo cartoony feel that the game will have.
I want to badly give her some kind of unique touch - a ghostly girl is really cliche!
My idea is that she functions like a genie, so her effect might look similar, the quick version i did in the image above looks way too goofy and like water :S.
The backstory of Isolde's race is that they're long gone, the progenitor thing really....it's a well-known story hook.
So this race were magic wielders, meaning they had tremendous powers - until the day their power became to great and consumed them (this is extremely cliche, but bear with me - its not needed for the project, but i like this stuff - and it means that i can build details on the character that might hint at the backstory).
About the ears - her race is primarily humanoid, apart from those...ears. I guess i kinda like them - they throw the player off kinda like the horned chap from ico.
My idea was as well that the ears are just a trait to hook into the story, and since all the characters are animal-like then she's not totally alien to them though.
